Burntisland
For generations, families have been enjoying all the fun of the seaside at Burntisland. One of Fife’s most popular seaside resorts, there’s a long list of reasons to visit Burntisland, including the long sandy beach, the visiting funfair, the tenth oldest golfclub in the world and one of the oldest Highland Games in Scotland.

Summer’s a busy time for Burntisland. The beach becomes a hot spot whenever the sun appears, while July sees the annual Burntisland Highland Games on the third Monday of the month and a visit from a travelling fair. There are also guided historical walks courtesy of the local heritage trust, which sometimes go to Rossend Castle, once visited by Mary Queen of Scots (when a French poet was found under her bed!).
There’s also lots going on throughout the year. The High Street has many independent and family-run shops, while Beacon Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, health suite and gym. To stretch your legs, follow the Fife Coastal Path, hike to the top of the extinct volcano - The Binn - which overlooks the town or, at low tide, walk along the beach to Kinghorn. It’s only three miles – and you can get the bus or train back.
