About

Culross is also known as the birth place of Saint Kentigern, A.D.612, who became St Mungo, patron Saint of Glasgow.

The Abbey Church was formerly part of the much larger Cistercian Abbey, which was founded in 1217 by Malcolm the 3rd, of MacDuff Thane of Fife, who lived close by. Today the Abbey is a Church of Scotland Parish Church.

The building has many significant historical features and you can also visit the ruins of the Cistercian monastery of the 1200s, once home to a community of monks and lay brothers.
