Discover West Fife on Two (or more) Wheels

The Round the Inner Forth cycle route is a 70-mile circular trail route which follows National Cycle Network Route 76 along the shores of the Inner Forth.

It’s a great way to explore the coastal fringe of west Fife where you’ll find lots to see including renowned wildlife habitats, ancient castles, historic burghs, industrial heritage and of course wonderful views.  

The Fife section largely follows the Fife Coastal Path and passes through several towns and villages so you’ll find plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the way. You can download a GPS map here.

As well as the coastal route there’s another west Fife option to enjoy. The Dunfermline to Culross loop is 21 miles and is mainly on segregated cycle paths with short sections on quiet minor roads and forest tracks. It takes you from the historic Heritage Quarter of Dunfermline to Culross which is packed with history and is one of Scotland’s most picturesque villages. You can download a route card here.

If you want to go further the Inner Forth route continues on from Fife at the Forth Road Bridge and the Clackmannan Bridge to the south side of the Forth and west to Stirling. The whole route is a 2-day pedal.

If you’d like to get on your bike but just want to do part of the route, there is a FREE Inner Forth Bike Bus.

It runs every Sunday until 26th October 2025 and, while the bus is primarily aimed at cyclists, walkers are also welcome to board the bus and make use of the service. There are three stops in Fife at Kincardine, Newmills and Charlestown.

The Inner Forth Bike Bus can accommodate a range of e-bikes, tandem bikes, handcycles and trikes. Where there is a wheel, there is a way!
